On Tuesday 22 April 2008, Active Exmoor hosted a triple launch at Wimbleball Lake, unveiling the Exmoor Outdoor Group, the new Active Exmoor 36 page full colour magazine and the new look website, the one stop portal for activities on Exmoor.
The day showcased everything that Exmoor has to offer with activities from archery to windsurfing available for attendees to try with everyone getting involved.
The Exmoor Outdoor Group aims to encourage adults to get out on Exmoor over the summer weekends whilst providing the opportunity for people to try something new, meet likeminded people and see the best that Exmoor has to offer.
All necessary kit is provided and expert tuition and support is always on hand to help you learn new skills and techniques. All you need to do is book and turn up!
Dan French, Club Development Officer says, "This is a fantastic opportunity for those people who are unsure about trying something new. We are here to make sure you have a great time and you want to come back to Exmoor".
Everyone's welcome whether you fancy a pleasant walk on the moors, a first time experience of rowing on Wimbleball Lake or an adrenaline fuelled experience coasteering the stunning Exmoor coastline.
The Group for adults will run at weekends from April 2008. Activities include indoor climbing, rowing, sailing, moorland walks, mountain biking, a falconry experience, surfing and high ropes. If you would like to find out more contact Dan French on 01398 324599 or visit www.activeexmoor.com.
Mike Bishop, Project Manager for Active Exmoor, says, "The project has really come on in the past 18 months, we have grown from one to four members of staff and we are now poised to make a significant difference to Exmoor's sports tourism industry".
Active Exmoor also showcased their new magazine, a 36-page full colour guide detailing all of Exmoor's activities and sporting events.
The first of its kind, the magazine covers everything from walking, mountain biking and horse riding to the Coastal Trail Series, the Perambulation and the Exmoor Beast.
The magazine has been well supported by local activity providers and event organisers. This support is expected to increase in 2009, providing even more opportunities to enjoy Exmoor.
Copies of the Active Exmoor magazine are available at sporting retail outlets across the South West and in Tourist Information Centres.
Active Exmoor have also completed their new look website, in time for the start of the season, a one stop portal for sporting events and activity information www.activeexmoor.com.
On the website you can sign up for the regular e-newsletter and be in for a chance to win a mountain bike, a stay in at Simonsbath House hotel or a Garmin hand held GPS device.
The website details all of the sporting events on Exmoor and how you can get involved whether you want to run a marathon, cycle 100 miles, walk the Royal Forest or just watch the Tour of Britain zoom past, Exmoor has something for everyone.
